Kim, my daughter is doing fine after 2 yrs of her alternative treatment for cancer. The American med Association has now announced this new alternative as their own idea when Robert Dowling, a researcher, did so in 1996. It involves building up the immune system and starving the cancer instead...

If you are here and you find this, know we think of you often and pray you are still going strong in your spirit if not in your body. We send love and hugs. We will always treasure the picture you made for us. We look upon it and think of you. God bless you and your caregivers! See you in...

Are you still on the forum, Rose? I have not come here very much for a while, since our dearest friends here have passed. The old pals are dwindling in number and the life of the forum is changing with the passing of favorite moderators. Change happens, but not always for the good. Hope you...

Hi Rose.. I have always appreciated your kind consideration and your posts. I see the forum isn't what it used to be without Fireman AL and Joel C and others. Bummer that ALS takes its toll. My daughter is doing really fine with her alternate treatments so far. I am frustrated that people won't...

    My husband

My PALS is a Vietnam vet, two tours, and it is expected that the agent orange is the cause of his ALS. It has been five years since his diagnosis and he is doing well. He is not to the point where he needs a PEG or trache quite yet, and is ambulatory although he staggers. He is courageous...

    Driving?

May I add.... Should you get in a fender bender and the other driver found out you have a disease... you'd get sued to the max.

    Driving?

Pay attention to the PALS responses to negotiating and reflexes, not just considering the motor abilities. My PALS cannot back up anymore without turning the wheel the wrong way. He also turns too soon. He pulls out too soon to pass, and pulls in too soon. Never before ALS did he ever make these...

    Not sure what to do

I quit work to be with my PALS and do SO enjoy being with him. He depends on me to help whatever he needs, and to support making decisions about his activities. We thought this would progress faster, and thankfully it has not.... but things change a bit week by week. We had to get all plastic...

    Back with questions.

Yes, your CPK can be high because of a trauma and then go down when the trauma is over. My PALS was injured in an explosion and after the 8 surgeries for that, his CPK went back a lot lower. Welsh people I am told by the specialist, naturally have a higher CPK. My PALS is Welsh. CPK 250

To poo or not to poo..

I was in no way suggesting using your Bipap without humidity. I said this: It's better ' to put it in the air instead of through the machine. We keep the humidity at 50% all the time, with a cold air humidifier and a gauge to measure it. The pulmonary specialist told us that it causes less...

    Good days and bad days

Attitude plays a big part in the reaction to a diagnosis of whatever physical problem. At the onset, we have to cry and grieve, but then move on. You can't change anything by worry, despair, or ranting. I have seen people happy with unbelievable obstacles in their lives. Think of what you DO...

To poo or not to poo..

poppy62.... Hi. The yawning is bringing more exchange of air. He could be lacking in oxygen, or building up with CO2. A sleep study is required to find out just what the need is, and then he would be set up with either a Cpap or Bipap machine for sleep. These are simple machines that just blow...

Moderator David, please note this above reply from beanfarmer. He is writing his book here on our forum. According to past protocol he would be removed from us. Please consider and act, if you will. :)

To poo or not to poo..

To address your diaphragm question. Not all patients get respiratory failure at the onset at least... maybe later.... but my PALS definately has depletion of his diaphragm. It has taken years to progress, but now it is about only 30% function. He doesn't notice the shortness of breath and...
