    Guilt is visiting

I think I'm going to take some quotes from this thread and turn them into signs to hang around my house. I helped take care of Dad for nine months before he passed and I'm swimming in guilt. I wish I could have done more for him. At the same time, I missed things in my son's life and my ability...

    Is ALS world wide?

Only because you mentioned China specifically did it strike me that I recall reading former leader Mao Tse Tung died from ALS!

    Simple EMG question

First, I don't think I have ALS! But, I have an EMG in two weeks. I've had some pain, tingling, and burning sensations in my legs and my doc is just being cautious as my dad passed from ALS. I think it's stress. Anyway, I teach a 2-hour class after the EMG. I remember Dad saying he was...

    your user profile name

I'm wildly creative. My screen name has been lisaann1170 since the late 1980's because my name is Lisa Ann and I was born in November of 1970! :) I've also used usn3kittez, although I'm not crazy about that one anymore. It's a version of "us and 3 kitties." So, guess how many cats my husband...

ALS in the New York Times 4/1

Article: Gravely Ill Butler Alumnus Joins His Team I'm reading the New York Times on my iPhone and posting here the same way. I'm not savvy enough to know how to link via my phone! It's a story about a former college athlete cheering on his alma mater in the Final Four. I hate to see anyone...

It's not looking good - anyone with input

I'm so sorry to read of your pain. I lost my dad due to ALS on the 13th of this month and his agony hit me hard. I wish it could be different for you. You're in my thoughts.

    Another fall for mom

Dana - I'm happy to hear that your mom suffered no "serious" injuries! My dad fell 3 times and it always scared the heck out of me! I love your mom's sense of humor! I hope she has the option to eat or avoid Dad's cooking for a long time to come! :)

    ALS/Parkinson's

I suspect statistically, it's not illogical to have both ALS and Parkinsons in the family. Dad's neuro talked about the rarity of familial ALS, but also suggested that a genetic susceptibility to neurological disorders isn't an unrealistic possibility.

Is this a symptom of ALS?

Does he have a PEG tube? Dad had similar challenges after using his feeding tube for a while. The feed rate and timing of his meals was altered and that seemed to help. His doc suggested he start using a mild children's medication for gas relief (I want to say Mylicon, but I'm not sure) which...

    My dad

Debbie, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I've read many of your posts and I feel I know your struggles. Best to you and your family as you move forward. I wish you warm memories.

    ALS/Parkinson's

I've never tread in this area as long as Dad was my focus. Now that he has passed, I and my aunt (Dad's sister) are wondering if there is a connection between ALS and Parkinson's Disease. I've done some Googling, but come up with little. Dad had ALS. His dad (my grandfather) supposedly had...

    Who owns a cat?

I'll add to the "nay" column just for the sake of doing so. Dad had ALS and hated cats. (Sorry to say that to so many cat lovers here! You can include me in the cat loving crowd!)

    Torturous

Thanks all. Fortunately for my dad, his suffering has ended. He passed Saturday morning. I'm still too numb and shaken to write a proper tribute. It's been a wild 9 months filled with shockingly rapid changes. I thank God repeatedly that he's free even though my heart aches terribly.

Katie, I truly appreciate the suggestion. I'll check into this.
