    Past CALS Rollcall

Greetings, All! I don't visit here as frequently as I used to... as sometimes, the emotional connection to what active CALS are dealing with, takes its toll upon me. Now, just over 2.5 years since Darcey's passing, I continue to be a subscriber to these Forums. I met many wonderful people...

    More sorrow

Oh, V... I'm so very sorry. I think that Ralph may have needed her more. My heart is sad with yours... My best... Jim

    CALS Roll Call Continued

Mary, As you can see, we each have our own stories. And our paths, though similar, were uniquely different. You may recall that we managed for one month shy of eight years on our journey. I was fortunate in that Darcey wanted to use the computer and worked hard to maintain access and the...

    V's Sweet Ralph

vlstra - I am so very sorry to hear of Ralph's passing. I know that you provided the very best care that you could... and I'm sure that your husband knew this fully. Love is not extinguished when death has taken its toll... instead, it survives... perhaps changed somewhat but surprisingly even...

    CALS Roll Call Continued

I had a controller at the back of Darcey's PWC that matched the controls of her front hand controller. I used it when I drove. It was particularly useful when I'd have to back her into the van and for positioning her into the front passenger area when we traveled. I know people manage with...

    Goodbye to my sweet husband

Robin, I'm so very sorry for your loss. I can attest to how much love and care you put into seeing him taken care of as well as was absolutely possible. At these moments, you are likely feeling overwhelmed with the huge depths of sadness that accompany the loss of such a loved one. But there...

    Computer recommendations

@EricInLA - Darcey had great success using Dragon Naturally Speaking Professional. Two important parts to this - (1) use the Pro version of the software as it is much more forgiving and accurate and (2) use one of their recommended headsets. We used a Sennheiser SD-BS-US... and it worked well...

    Lost my husband on 12/15/21

AKY10, I'm so very sorry to hear of the loss of your husband. I'm not sure that the "missing" part ever completely goes away... but for me, it has become more peaceful with the passing of time. I hope that you, too, can find that peace. My best... Jim

Need Advice - nighttime signal/alarm for Pal in distress

I had a similar difficulty with my PALS, Darcey. During her last year, we kept her hospital bed in the downstairs dining room. This was so my caregiver aid could let herself in at 9AM and get Darcey up and started for the day without any need to wake me if I'd had a long night working or had...

    CALS Roll Call Continued

Mary - I had someone in Mon thru Fri. She'd arrive at 9AM, let herself in and get Darcey up, washed, dressed and fed. She would leave between 11 and 11:30 to run errands and visit her Mom (until Covid arrived). She would return about 2 to 2:30 and stay until 5PM... giving Darcey her evening...

    Jdeanda's dad

@Jdeanda - I can so identify with what you are feeling... and I'm a year and a half out from the loss of my wife, Darcey. Keep those good memories of how you loved him and let them embrace and hold you. My best... Jim

    Omicron and rapid tests

I have been surrounded by those with symptoms of Covid, who are using antigen tests to give them the comfort of being "okay". And I've been surrounded by those who have done drive-thru PCR testing who have tested POSITIVE for Covid... one of them being my next-door neighbors, who brought their...

    Newly Diagnosed

Melodie, We'd all prefer that you did not need to seek us out. And we'll all hope that a second opinion finds that your husband has something that is temporary and recoverable. With that being said, if you do find the need to continue here, you'll find that you are in very good company. Ask...
