  • Welcome Jim, sorry that you have to be here with us. I notice a lot of similarities between our spouses condition, and thought I would tell you about the sip & puff ventilator that my Tim uses. He can swallow and speak clearly, but he has lost the ability to take a deep breath. He uses a trilogy 100 sip & puff that is attached to his PWC to augment his breathing during the day, and the good thing is that he doesn't have to wear a mask so he can talk and sing if he wants to. There is a small mouth piece that he takes a puff of air with, that delivers a specified amount of air into his lung when he needs it. He also uses it to stack his breaths so that he can cough effectively. He uses a bipap at night with a sealed face mask so he doesn't have to think about taking a breath. He has central apnea at night which means he forgets to breath entirely, so his bipap is set to deliver a minimum of 12 breaths a minute.
