    Were you a preemie?

Hello. I can't believe I joined this forum a year ago to ask about my 30 year old sister's neurological symptoms. Like so many people here, she has progressive muscle weakness and atrophy on one side or her body. It started with foot drop, progressed to subluxed shoulder, and recently now...

    Numbness.

She's getting worse. My sister told me tonight that she has new symptoms of weakness in her legs and arms. She said, well it can't be ALS because women don 't get that. She's 30, of course she would think that. She said, well whatever this is it won't kill me. I just listen and agree then get...

    Numbness.

Thanks. Thanks everyone for sharing you experiences. It's so nice to know we aren't alone out here. My sister is about to turn 30. She had foot drop about 2 years ago but it seemed to get better and was diagnosed as compartment syndrome. She still can't run or symptoms return. Then her right...

    Numbness.

Back again with another question as my sister is having a new symptom. She's had ongoing pain/weakness/atrophy in her right arm that worsens with exertion or extended use. But recently she's woken up with numbness in her left arm and hand. No weakness, just numbness that resolves. I've read...

One more question... Can ALS symptoms spontaneously resolve? I am asking because my sister no longer experiences foot drop since she gave up running. Thanks.

Thanks. Hey Jeliota. Thanks for your advice. My sis has been to several neuros, orthos, and other specialist and they just have no clue what is going on. She keeps going to neuros who say it's muscular and orthos who say it's neuro. She has pretty much been abandoned by the docs at this point...

    Am I a jerk?

and let's also remember that doctors are only human. They are usually trying to do the best they can with a disease that is little understood, rare, and highly variable from person to person.

    Am I a jerk?

oops I meant to direct that to lisa, not liz.

    Am I a jerk?

and Hi liz. I would also like to add that I think people are losing in faith in doctors in general in this country... well, really the medical industy as a whole. It used to be that everyone just accepted what docs said with blind faith but not so much anymore. Especially with the internet...

Thanks again. Hey ltr. Thank you. I cried quite a bit tonight about what my little sis (I'm her big sis,not her brother:) has been going through. And I guess a little about what the people here have gone through. I have to say that knowing you are all around makes it easier to stay silent and...

Okay. Thank you Cindy. I won't say anything to her. I will try to put it out of my own mind. If you all here don't mind me asking, would you include her/us in your prayers? This has been a hard time as I know it has for so many people here. Take care you all and good luck. JH

So... So, does it sound like it could be ALS?

Thanks. Thanks. And I agree with the idea that I should not mention it, EXCEPT... my sister is in her first year of grad school and will come out with 100K in debt. Plus she is stressed out and unhappy a lot of the time. If it is ALS, would she want to live her life differently for two whole...

Hey. I'm here with the same question as everyone else. Except this is about my sister. She is 29. Last year she was diagnosed with compartment syndrome in her leg. She had some buckling and pain. Never fell, but had to give up running because of weakness. Within the past 6 months she also...
