Kim, cancer can be find in begining stages and cured... Is always hope and many sucssesfull cases. Its also bad disease but its different.. Mom is not at home these weeks, so why I spend so much time in all this.. When she will be home I wont have time to think about me.. But still.. How stupid...

Let me be silly again.. But I read about cases where people write that their parent got ALS, and later parent's sibling also got it. It became familial from nowhere, as nobody had it in previous generations. My mother doesn't have siblings so... If they where..and where healthy, maybe I would be...

I don't say that I have ALS. And my mom's symptoms are very serious. Doctors think it's ALS. Yes, maybe I sound silly, but not knowing our family history and being afraid of this disease so much, makes me over paranoid.

I didn't mean smoking increase risk for everybody. I ment only for those, whose close relative has ALS.

Thank you for your coments... I will try to wait for diagnosis and not to panic. But our family history is not well known. About half doctor.. I was graduated as a midwife.. So I am not a doctor, but I studied medicine. We joke like this here, that nurses and midwives are half doctors:)

Doctor referred her to EMG with suspition about ALS... And I think its classical symptoms. I am half doctor (educated in other medical field though, not neurology). About my personal fears.. Even its sporadic, she must have something wrong, genetic predisposition. I gathered most of her genes...

I noticed that many people who have ALS, have family members with other neurodegenerative diseases in their families. So I wonder maybe mom got ALS from gene mutation from Alzheimers? Is it possible? I don't understand much in genetics, just looking for possible reasons.. What do you think about it?
