Hate to hear the news that your dad is not doing well. How did his clinic go? I have gotten to where I hate the week before clinic but not as much as the week after. Hardly ever any good new but I pray that your dad's visit was the exception. You folks are very fortunate to have you there. It was very unselfish of you to take time from work. Since I have daughters of my own, 19 and 22 I know what your going through with yours. It's hard. You told me once that your dad like to take a few pictures. How about posting a few? I 'd love to see them. Sending you the very best wishes. Jim
Hi Linda and all. I have not been on in a while. My Dad is much worse. I ended up temporarily moving in w/ my parents and went on FMLA for my job, so I can help care for Dad. The progression (extremity onset) has been stunning. No use of arms and now he cannot even stand to transfer. My 74 yo Mom and I are having a very hard time here. My poor Daughter is having a hard time w/o me at home most of the time. I have someone caring for my horse in my absence. It's an awful situation. I so wish I could do something more for Dad, but I know just being here is a comfort to him (and a necessity). He goes to clinic next Mon & will prob qualify for hospice. At some point he'll prob move to Hospice House close to their home. He does not want PEG or Vent. I am dealing w/ anxiety attacks and am trying to hold it togther here. Whoever originally said, 'ALS Sucks', hit that right on the mark!
    Hello Heather!
We haven't heard from you in a while. How are you? How is your dad? Keep us posted on how things are going.
Did you ever get one of Irismarie's paintings? I got the Haunted Garden and it's beautiful! She is very modest in stating they are amateur and look better in photos. When I got mine, I was stunned. It was so much more than I imagined.
Take care and let us hear from you soon.
    Love and hugs,
    Linda
Heather, sweetheart, they are v amateur and look better in the photographs. The idea is that you take a painting then make a donation to ALS guardian angels as "payment". This is helping me clear out my house, ou undertand;-)
I shall update the albums, transfer the sold ones to the right place then if there is anything that pleases you still in the album for sale, just ask........Dick and I pay the postage
    Much love

Sorry to hear about your Dad. Everyone's journey with ALS is different; for some it advances quickly for other very slow. I hope you have many more years with him. It sounds like your Dad and I have a lot in common. I am 50 years old and only started kayaking about four years ago. I find it and the photography go well together, although I don't get a chance to do much of either right now between work and my caregiveing duties.

I think you will find this forum very helpful, exspeically if you live close to your dad and have very much caregiving responseability. It can be a very exhausting thing as well as extreamly exulting. Here you will find willing hearts wanting to help including mine. Please let me know how I can be of help.
