Yet another update on my mom. She was transferred from the hospital to a skilled nursing facility and the rep came to set her up on the Trilogy. Turns out that because the Trilogy is considered a vent and can assist with breathing, the skilled nursing facility can't use it. So, they're getting...

Help. They now have a BiPAP in my mom's room. She's sooo short of breath and coughing non-stop. They wanted to bump her O2 up from 2L to 4L They only put her on it if her O2 sats are low...like she was just at 92% and they don't think she needs it. Is that how they should determine?

I assume Guillian Barre was ruled out? I'm sure it was, but I just had to ask.

I don't know if acute heart failure was ruled out...not sure what difference it would make. She never had heart issue previously, but I am thinking that the heartburn which she had be complaining of for the last twi months (and I was attributing to a weakened diaphragm) was really her heart all...

Ugh. Her breathing was great. Up until a day or two before the heart attack. I can't imagine that it would decline so rapidly, but who knows.

I totally agree Tillie, and usually teaching needs to happen over several sessions. If there's a decline that warrants a new eval. But that doesn't mean therapists can stay in indefinitely and wait for an decline. That's unethical and it is our license that is on the line, unfortunately...

She will not get assistance with "bathing and such" (which is provided by a home health aide) unless there is also a SKILLED service being provided (PT/OT/ST/nursing).
