So scared again! Does this look like bulbar (video)

Manyquestions - My tongue twitches, quivers, and moves like crazy on its own when it's resting in my mouth. It's completely normal and doesn't mean you have ALS.

    Is there anyone like me

Hi Monster, I have been hyperreflexic for years. My doctor found my brisk reflexes quite a while ago during a regular health checkup. I kicked like a mule when he tapped my knees. He said it was "concerning" but left it at that. I never thought anything about it, just figured my reflexes were...

    Someone please respond!

Hi MLP, I don't have ALS, but I did visit an ALS clinic after being sent there for symptoms and have learned a bit about it. I can tell you that after 5 years of symptoms, you probably do not have ALS. By now you would be quite disabled if you did have a motor neuron disease. Body twitches...

    Other's Progressions?

My sister-in-law has MS and your story sounds a lot like hers. Have you had an MRI of your brain and spinal cord?

    Pain

I'm not sure why you would think your sore muscles are caused from ALS. I don't think that sore muscles alone equal ALS. That's like having headaches and believing you have brain cancer. Your doctor probably doesn't think you need an emg because you don't need one. BFS can cause muscle fatigue...

I DEFINITELY have atrophy/fasciculationss and had MRI - advice needed please

Mary, I would make sure to get that appointment with the neurologist. I hope that there is another explanation as to the reason. There can be other causes so keep your hopes up. Best wishes to you.

I DEFINITELY have atrophy/fasciculationss and had MRI - advice needed please

Why do you think you have atrophy? Did your doctor say he saw atrophy or are you just noticing the atrophy? What does your wasting look like? What do your fasciculations look and feel like, and when do you notice them? Diagnosing neurological conditions can take months, and sometimes years...

    Tongue fasciculations

I'm sorry you're having problems. I've been having tongue fasciculations since about June. Some days they go on and on. I also have twitching in the legs, stomach, back, etc, but mostly the arms. I have muscle fatigue, cramps, and spasms. I do not have ALS. Are you choking on liquids and...

    Is this tongue atrophy?

I don't see any differences between the left and right, except at the tip but that is normal. When I look at your top front teeth, I see a chip or piece on the tooth on the left that is missing. Your tongue probably sits in that groove which has caused the minor misshape at the tip.

    Why is this Forum Here?

I agree with Vickim. There may be the occasional person in the DIHALS who later finds out they really do have it. Plus, on the positive side, talking about the disease, even when its with a person who has an irrational fear of ALS, gets the word out. I didn't even know what ALS was 6 months...

    sleep medications

I probably shouldn't be posting in this area because I don't have ALS, but I have had insomnia and sleep problems for many, many years so maybe I can offer some suggestions. I was on Trazadone for a long time, but it caused me some bad side effects and eventually just quit working altogether...

    The infamous "twitching"

DaveSmith- With BFS, twitches that stay in one location, also called "hot spots", can hang around for a long. And by a long time, I mean weeks, months, and even years. There's need to worry about it.

would like your thoughts on symptoms

Terry, Have you looked into the aboutbfs.com/forums page? A lot of the symptoms you have (fatigue, a feeling of weakness, all over twitching, aching, etc) sound a lot like Benign Fasciculation Syndrome. If your neurologist rules everything out, there's a good change you may get a BFS diagnosis.

    Is this tongue atrophy?

From what I've learned, those dents along the sides are not atrophy. It's called a scalloped tongue and it's caused from your teeth. You can search it online to see that it's a very common thing. The dents in my tongue are very pronounced and look almost exactly like your tongue. Also, the tip...
