  • Hey "neighbor,"
I wanted to say "hey" to you and Scott. My family lives in Athens, so I guess that would count as "neighbors"! I would love to meet ya'll and treat you both to an ice cream from my shop Creative Cookied & Creamery. I am there 11-4 M-F unless I am out of town, which I will be for the week of Thanksgiving. ~Judy
Sorry I did not answer u but get PVA or DAV they will help you fill out all the paper work and it took me only 6 months to get Van, chair, grants, and a check well over 6000 a month and when I get worse the money will be more because someone will have to take care of me.My girlfriend really works hard now to help me now. BE STRONG GOD BLESS
So glad that you are feeling hopeful too. Scott has had such an upset stomach since he's been on antibiotics for bronchitis, it's really been a rough week.
Praying for your husband's fast recovery ! Thanks for sharing the hope....foot movement is awesome when you havent been able to...I think I have the real thing, as I felt a little wired last night, unable to sleep...I usually sleep like a log...also after I took it, about a half hour later my heart seemed to race just a little....Hope is a vital thing, thank you for sharing...have you gone to the dex trial thread and shared there? Spread the hope. love you
    HI
Thanks for the update about the Honda. I'm so glad that we're getting it soon. We have bucket seats in the Passat and today was the last day that he will ever sit in that car. He got stuck for about 1/2 hour while I tried to get him out. Finally used the transfer board to the power chair and back inside to the lift chair. No Fun.
Hi GP, just wanted to say hello to you, and hope you're both doing well. I already own a Honda Odyssey, which I'm going to try to get retrofitted. The only bad thing I can ever say about mine (which is a 2001) is that the older ones have problems with their transmissions. I've also had an occasional problem with the electric doors "locking" up especially in the winter/ice storms. There's an easy fix for that though, which I found out after going months with one door not working: all you have to do is disconnect the battery, and the door's motor resets. Love my big white refrigerator on wheels (except for the gas mileage).
    G.P.

Don't know if you seen this one or not. Thought I would pass it along.

Hope you are having as good a day as possible. Jim

ALS & Veterans on the news
Service & Sacrifice: Veterans Face Higher Risk of ALS | wbir.com

Came across this news story this morning on the Internet. Sure wish they would do more of these of stories...
Thanks for the info. August 2nd can't come soon enough now that I know it will definitely take two months to receive. We looked that model up. I was wondering about the width. What is the narrowest door that you can go through?I know front doors are all standard.

I was also curious which van you ordered? Honda Odyssey? I've seen a lot of people rave about it.
    THANKS
The VA-ALS clinic in Charleston ordered on 5/11 and I got the Permobil M-300 Corpus 3G,Its a great chair, has a range of 13 miles and 6mph,has the raise and tilt also.Good luck!
    Morning,
I got my chair on July 8th and I love it,think I get the van this week. The PVA has helped move everything,GOOD LUCK----------------Hugs Ken
Only 30 well I just got 100 and a van to carry my power chair all from VA.Apply for more rating get the van and the power chair.Look at all that the VA will get you call PVA OR DAV THEY WILL SHOW YOU THE WAY. Good luck and GOD BLESS
We met with PVA back in Feb but at that time our outside neurologist would only confirm suspicion even though this week he said he knew then it was ALS. I think now that we have been through the VA PT Dept., things will move more quickly. Thanks for replying.
My husband was diagnosed on 4/16/10. I met with the PVA on 4/26/10. We got our first disability check from the VA in June, 2010. By September, we had the van. I really had to help push things along to get the van that quickly. Be prepared to make phone calls about equipment in the beginning. Have you filled out all of the paperwork with the VA? If not, do that ASAP. They don't really care when he was diagnosed outside of the VA. The date they look at is the date you started paperwork within the VA system.
