My wife was just started on Tizanidine for cramps and spasticity. She is having severe pain in her arms, hands and legs. What is the maximum effective dose that would help her. We are using a Nurses Practitioner who is not that familiar the doses for this. Any help would be appreciated.

I am going to give you a different perspective. My wife too has rejected the tube plus any and all devices for breathing, coughing, etc. She started with symptoms when she was in her sixties and feels that age is the determining factor and wants to die in her own way. It is now nine years later...
My wife was on Baclofen and it didn't help and seemed to make her weaker. If I understand you correctly, the spasticity and tightness in her muscles gives the appearance of muscle strength but it hides or masks the underlying weakness. If this is correct, Baclofen should reduce the spasticity...
Jaw clenching is one of the many problems my wife has. I was giving her meds with pudding and she closed her teeth and clenched the spoon with teeth and started gagging. It took about 30 seconds of massaging her jaw to unlock her teeth. She also has most of the other issues related to this...
My wife has bulbar onset an can't speak and has swallowing problems. She lost use of her right hand (her writing hand) about 6 months ago. She had been able to walk slowly until recently when she started falling on a regular basis. Her falls have resulted in broken wrist, compression fractures...

and Valium (at bedtime to help her sleep). Dr just added Cymbalta. Dr also thinks she has some cognitive issues. I just feel that the apathy is directly related to ALS as...
After 6 years, my wife, PALS was diagnosed with PBP, She lost her speech and has difficulty swallowing. Progression has been slow as she is having problems with her hands and legs. After seeing a new neuro last month she thinks she has PLS, She falls at least once a week and is too stubborn to...
My wife was diagnosed 2 years ago with PBP and probable slow progression Bulbar Onset. 3 weeks ago went to a new neuro and she thought she had PLS because of slow progression. She lost the ability to speak about four years ago and had difficulty swallowing which has progressed slowly. She has...
Can a broken wrist speed up progression in Bulbar onset? Wrist broken and operated on about a month ago and recovery is slow with other weaknesses showing up.

When my wife (PALS) started losing her voice and before her diagnosis, I had a key chain made up by a an online company called Zazzle. It said:
"I have a condition called Dysarthria and can't speak. I can hear and understand you."
It works great.
