    Cannot eat

Thank you for the kind replies. I got a feeding tube last November. We did not use it because in late March I was suppose to get a machine that hooks to my feeding tube and would feed me while I slept. We were waiting for it, and we waited too long. I love to eat, so everyday I thought I...

    Cannot eat

Hi everyone, As hard as I try, nothing sounds good to eat. I was suppose to get a device that would feed me while I slept, but it never came. When I saw the doctor last Friday, he was shocked that I did not get it. Everyone was pointing the finger at everyone else. In the meantime, I've...

    ALS Forums

Do you have any hope, success stories, and information of what works and what doesn't? As a fast progressing person with a terminal illness, I'm interested to hear what you believe will help me. Can you give me advice to help me walk again? I have one finger left to type this message. Any...

    Wheelchair

I would be in trouble if I did not have the elevation. I can no longer take a bath in our bathtub, and I can no longer take a shower. The elevation on my pwc allows me to get high enough to get my hair washed by my caregiver. It has been a very important feature for me. I was told I would...

Covers for the cold foot plates on the Power Wheelchair

I don't know Laurie. This just happened this past week. My panic attacks are awful in the bed because I cannot move my legs, and my arms are almost useless too. I've always been very strong, and I am not an overly emotional person. This is new territory for me. With my PWC, I can move my...

Advice for those who have ALS

My advice was for those who have ALS may want to avoid reading this site because, for me, it caused me a lot of stress. I, also, believe stress caused my ALS, so I avoid any stressful situations. I have seen CALS be very helpful, as always, with helping those who believe they may have ALS on...

Covers for the cold foot plates on the Power Wheelchair

My daughter and I went to WalMart today, and I went to the car section where they sell mitts to clean cars. I purchased two of them, and with a little struggle, they fit perfectly over each of my foot plates on my PWC. What a difference! And for under $3 each. They are soft and very...

Advice for those who have ALS

Well said Kim. I admire your amazing strength. I struggled with symptoms for about 3 years before getting diagnosed June 2015. I would have loved to have posted on the DIHALS site as I searched for answers during that stressful time. Because we PALS struggle everyday with ALS, I try to...

Advice for those who have ALS

When I first got on this site, I read the posts on the, "Do I have ALS?". I found that reading these posts made me angry because most have symptoms that could be other illnesses or nothing to really worry about. There is a lot with anxiety issues. These people have a right to post on this...

    talk to me about aspiration

I found some help with aspiration that surprised me. I have a trilogy with a humidifier. Each night before bed I add 2 drops of a Doterra oil called Breathe in the humidifier. I have had no problems since I started doing this about 3 months ago. I think peppermint oil might work too. Hugs, Deb

    fluctuation in voice/speech problems

I sound raspy, like I have a cold. My caregiver has noticed that I have a difficult time with enunciation. I know how to pronounce the words, but it takes me a few seconds to get some of them out of my mouth correctly. I think it happens more when I am stressed and/or tired too. In my...

    Panic attack

I found a solution to avoid the panic attacks. I sleep in my wheelchair. I just have to make sure that my bottom is not touching the net of the hoyer lift sling ( painful- added a pad), I wear a diaper (just in case). place a pillow behind my head at the headrest, and must make sure my shoes...

    Panic attack

My husband (CALS) came home late Thursday from having hip replacement surgery. He is doing better each day, and I'm so proud of him. I did not receive hospice care for the 3 hours needed while home alone from 2-5pm, but had them for one hour. I guess I misunderstood. It has been like a...
