Slow progressing ALS. Where its led me to.

Hello Dignify, you have surely been through a lot of personal problems and I will keep you in my prayers. I have not been through what you have but I am in an advanced stage of ALS with limited time left. Don't know if you are religious but the Priest at my parish visits me regularly and always...

    Morphine for breathing

My hospice nurse has suggested the use of morphine under my tongue in extremely small quantity to relax me and make breathing easier. I have not tried this yet, has anyone else used this treatment?

    ALS comorbidity

Hi Jethro, there probably is no link to ALS but I got shingles 8 months after diagnosis. There is a new vaccine now and I would check with your doctor to see if it would be good for you. Shingles was very painful for many months. That coupled with my ALS was an experience I hope no one else has...

    Numbness anyone?

I have the same symptoms but in my right hand. Little finger and ring finger are numb and I cannot move them. My neurologist thought this might be a result of leaning on my right elbow pinching off nerves and not necessarily a symptom of my ALS.

Looking for ways to slow Bulbar Onset ALS progression

My initial symptoms were foot drop and leg weakness but 2 weeks prior to my diagnosis I began having trouble chewing, swallowing and speaking clearly. One of the first things done during my first hospital stay was a chest x-ray and a Thymoma was discovered. This led my neuro to think I could...

    Feet and calves swelling

Hi everyone, I have a question on wheelchair side effects. I had a fall 3 weeks ago using my walker and now I am in my wheelchair all day. My legs have just lost too much strength. The problem is now my feet and calves swell terribly, to a point where it is difficult for my wife to put on my...

    3 year dx anniversary

Hi Kristina, you really have writing skill putting your feelings into words. I too remember 3 years ago when I could mow the lawn, wash the cars, do chores and other things. My speech is often hard to understand as well, and like you I try to focus on the good things. I love reading your...

    First post on this forum

<quoted text removed> Hi Ward, like you I had foot drop early on before I was diagnosed and fell frequently. My legs weakened but I still managed the 15 stairs to go to bed. I was fortunate the first time I fell down the stairs from the 7th step and was only bruised. The second fall caused a...

    Another Pulmonary Question

I do feel out of breath frequently, but otherwise I feel OK for 2 1/2 years since diagnosis. I have cough assist and use BiPAP every night and occasionally during the day. Thanks for sharing and the positive feedback.

    Another Pulmonary Question

Hello all, last week at my clinic I had a pulmonary test with results, according to my neurologist, indicating very serious weakness. My FEV1 was 1.20 and FVC was 1.23. Laying on my back the numbers were 0.89 and 0.85. In March of 2019 I was 2.49 and 2.17 (FVC and FEV1) so the last year has seen...

    please help

Hi Kristina, thank you for mentioning we're neighbors. I never looked at the sidebar data. I do not use any social media (besides this forum) and I do not have an upgraded account so I don't know how you can message me. That being said I am so sorry you are having pain. I hope you find a...

My status and request for help/advice

Thank you all for the comments. I am glad I found this forum so I can communicate with other PALS. I do have an electric wheelchair, I use it outdoors and to get to the car. I can use it indoors, I have just been stubborn as mentioned. I have my clinic this Wednesday, I will mention the neck...

My status and request for help/advice

Good evening everyone, I am in my 27th month since diagnosis and had symptoms I ignored a year before that. I am 65 years old, live with my beautiful wife of 41 years who cares for me. I still have the ability to walk with a walker in the house but it is scary and I am stubborn. I have...
