  • my heart is with you. My husband doug's journey was also so fast. He never fully had the breathing issues but, everything failed him. I too am so saddened but, so relieved his pain is over. It is so hard to watch your loved one go through this. I know he also is in a better place. I miss him so yet, I am so grateful for his quick passing.
My husband Dave passed away this past week. He had only been diagnosed in Oct. He developed some lung problems last Tuesday and died on Saturday. We had a beautiful service for him yesterday and it's so obvious that he touch many people. I will miss him dearly, but I will am relieved that the betrayal of his body has ended. He handled his illness with incredible grace. Not one day did he ever complain! I heard him daily say "I'm not gonna let this ruin my day". He never did..
    Hi,
I see you live in the same region as do I and was diagnosed several months before your husband. How are you both doing?
    My best,
    Randy
Hello- My husband was diagnosed with ALS on Oct. 8, 2010. We saw the neurologist in early Sept. and on that first meeting he told us probable ALS. The testing that came after confirmed the diagnosis. In 3 month Dave has lost 25 lbs, muscle wasting in arms and legs, his upper belly stick out as he can't hold it in anymore. Last night he had a hard time catching his breath whe he came to bed. He can still use his walker, but he fatigues incredibly when just walking across the room. So- my question is this. I am concerned about the breathing. I can see his abdomin move up and down when he's laying down. We go to the ALS clinic in Mayo in two weeks and they will do the pulmonary function then. He has not had one in 3 months and that was at diagnosis time. At that time he was just slightly below normal. Can this happen this fast?? I guess that's my question. Sorry to ramble.. many thoughts today..

    Thanks for listening..
    Hello-
My husband had a second opinion at Mayo clinic and today we were told ALS again. I guess you alway hope maybe they'll find something else in all the tests they run. Sigh.....

He laughs at me when I get all philosophical and tell him we are together in this and we will make each day the best we can..

He is a great guy.. I know he is devastated too. He has many plans of things he wants to do. We will do what we can.

He has alot of trembling in his hands and says he feels his whole body kind of shakes inside. He is uncomfortable.. does anyone else have this.. any idea how to help it.

I hope to get him on here soon. I think it will help. There seems to be alot of great folks that are facing this disease with so much grace. I am amazed..

    Diane
