    Fungi in ALS CSF

Vincent: It's not that bad. I had one too I barely felt it. I give you that I heard some people having bad experiences with it, mine was nothing at all. I'd do it anytime without hesitation again if I have to. Don't be too scared of it and it's quick too, before I knew it the doc was done.

    Dormant viruses triggering SALS?

This is very interesting indeed, one question however remains is why this is only attacking the somatic motor neurons and not the three other types (somatic visceral, or either of the two of sensory neurons). In other words why these viruses are residing only in the motor cortex of the brain...

Mother Newly Diagnosed but Advanced Stage

Somebody correct me if I am wrong but moderate exercises actually help. Maybe try to convince her to go outside trying some activities even just sitting in the wheelchair like shopping and she can pick items for you or something but I think moving and doing moderate exercises actually help. So...

Either way of course this has made me very interested about ALS and have learned a lot about it and if I hopefully finally ever end up getting a negative diagnosis I can still be a good example of how close something can be to ALS yet still isn't. I see so many people coming to this forum (I...

I forgot to add another strange thing is if I exercise harder the areas where the muscles have already degenerated get worse while the healthy muscles do get better. The best approach is just to do normal daily work, that seems to have the best all over effect.

Thank you I am also hopeful since it's been approaching to two years since the first symptoms have occured. Eveything started sudden and progressed fast. Muscles degenerated in my neck - mostly front - then under my jaw one side at the time, then many of the ribs (intercostal muscles) and later...

    Denial fading...

I have read many threads and I still can't believe this disease can progress so fast. I am very sorry for you guys and yes I also know how hard it is to deal with it. Keep us posted as we always hope for a better outcome! Can I ask how old your husband is?

Well since my original thread was closed I am starting a new one. Up to know I was very busy getting things done in case something happens I decided to take care of everything while I can. I just had my third neuro test and still passed 95% of it, just a couple of the tongue tests caused...

I thought I had ALS for two years

Parotid disease when you have problems with your salivary glands. I too went through swallow tests with several months intervals, fist was normal but consecutives showed some food stagnations, I am advised to drink liquids during meals. Liquids go down better than solids. Just frustrating when...

I thought I had ALS for two years

Hi Sunvista, I'm in similar shoes you are. Although nobody could give me a definite diagnosis I was constantly called back for rechecks by doctors and neurologist and their best guess from all was ALS! For me is also started almost two years ago with muscle atrophy in the neck and throat...

Could I possibly have ALS? Recent slurred speeches

To me sounds more like a more severe case of anxiety, like Mike said definitely go see your GP, most of what you described are not related to ALS. ALS is only the slow degeneration of the motor neurons so only motor functions (movements) would be affected. It does not cause headaches, pain...

Yes I will for sure in a couple of weeks, first I think I'll try the University again but with a specialist this time and if I get a positive or uncertain again then I can go to Mayo which is only about an hour and half drive. Thank you for the encouragements!
