    New to BiPap

I'm using the full face mask that covers just my mouth and nose. The air blowing into my mouth from the BiPap is what dries my mouth.

    New to BiPap

I've been using a BiPap for about 3 weeks and I expected to have more daytime energy but I don't. It does help me sleep, I have a hard time breathing laying down without it. My only complaint is "dry mouth", apparently when I fall asleep my mouth drops open and the air dries out my mouth really...

    I hate this...

Hi Jim, was that pun intended? Yes, it is a man with his head up his butt. I'm sure we've all dealt with guys like him before.

    Useless Sleep Study

Thanks for the offer Notme, I'm still waiting to hear from my pulm doc, he's the one that ordered the test but the test was done by a tech who works in my neuro docs office and she's on vacation. If my pulm doc is going to be stubborn I'll visit the ALS clinic in Jacksonville this Thursday and...

    Does exercise slow progression?

I liked the way my neuro at the Mayo Clinic put it when I asked him if exercise would help. He said "do you like to exercise", I said no, he said "then don't"

    Useless Sleep Study

After having two appointments for an overnight sleep study cancelled because they said the "machine broke" I finally went in last Wednesday night and it turned out crappy. The bed was a Murphy bed that folded down from a wall cabinet, one step better than a sleep sofa and maybe two steps...

    New to this

Hi Mike, I'm new to this too. I really can't see a difference day to day but when I look back to last November I just had weakness in my right thumb and forefinger. Today I can't walk without a walker. Compared to some other PALS I think I have a pretty fast progression. Haven't hit a plateau...

The Dudley Clendinen Interviews "A Good Short Life"

A former reporter and editorial writer for the New York Times, Dudly Clendinen, who wrote the short story discussed in this thread "A Good Short Life", has been interviewed every other Monday since February on a public broadcasting radio station in Baltimore. He was diagnosed with ALS in...

    which bipap?

I'm going in for an overnight sleep study tomorrow night with the hopes that it will result in a bipap machine (pant, pant). My question is who selects the brand and model of the machine. I have medicare so is it medicare, my doctor, or me that determines what I get? I filled out the form...

    A Newby on The Bus

Don't know what happened but I tried to post a reply yesterday to all of you for the warm welcome aboard. When I clicked on the "submit reply" button a message flashed on the screen that I just caught a glimpse of. It said something about the post being approved by the moderator. What's that all...

    A Newby on The Bus

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Hope I can hang around long enough to get to know each one of you. With a busload like this it's going to be an enjoyable trip. Funny thing happened when I opened this web site today. I had not logged in so the advertisements were still visible and the very...

    A Newby on The Bus

Hi Folks, I guess I'm one of the new PALS on this bus. I can't say I like our destination but I figure with a bus full of other PALS the trip should be easier. I first got the word that I may have ALS from my neurologist last April after I failed two EMGs and a NCV test. She referred me the...
