    Voice stronger and more clear when lying down

    Anyone have any idea as to why my mum's voice would be clearer (not slurring anywhere near as much) and stronger volume wise, when she is lying down flat on her back in bed? My step dad has also said she frequently talks in her sleep and it is far more clear than when she speaks when sitting...

    Is it common to have an illness prior to ALS diagnosis?

    I'm not sure I was looking for someone or something to blame, more just trying to grasp an understand of the disease, its onset and what of her symptoms are actually related to ALS. Thank you for the taking the time to reply.

    It has been a week since my mum was told by her neurologist that she has ALS. She is 57 and up until 14 months ago, she had been in good health her entire life. I am still in a complete state of shock and somewhat of denial. I don't want to burden my mum with questions I have to bring to her...
