Hi Aly, I just read you have an Ipad. Can you tell me, if you don't mind, did you get it yourself or through the state? What app are you using for voice? I'm ready for some sort of text to speech device and not getting any joy at all from the Talklink people down this way, not even any good advise. Thanks.

Hi Aly, Jim had good advice. He said you can take a horse to water but you can't make him drink. Just give him salt and he'll want to drink. Perhaps my salt will be just listening and supporting her to help her want to have a second opinion? I have a lot to learn here!!

So, how are you doing now? It must be hard to live with your husband - does he care for you or do you have another caregiver. Were you in the medical field when you met your husband? I don't mean to be intrusive but I think you are someone who could really help me with this. I don't want to be like your husband - I want to do the right thing, the caring and most supportive thing for my sister. It's hard because I'm a physician just like your husband. I wonder if it is different between spouses and siblings???

Aly, regarding prognosis, what is the difference between ALS and PLS? Thank you so much for writing me - your advice is priceless.

Dear Aly, is it difficult being married to a neurologist? My sister has been recently diagnosed with ALS and I am a psychiatrist. I want to help her not hurt her. Do you and your husband have any advice as to how I can best help her? I think, as physicians, many of us are used to controlling difficult situations. It's a completely different thing when it hits your own family (as it should).
