New Research pertaining to ALS and similar Diseases

I found this article utterly fascinating, and I wanted to share it here. I hope if you agree with me, that you will print it, or PDF it and share it with smart people, doctors you may have, or those in research. I truly believe that the more "big brains" get involved, the more progress will be...

The Weakness Issue - Final Verdict?

I find it hard to believe you're going to be dropping things as soon as you start twitching. Especially if you were working out heavy just a few weeks before. SEe here's the problem - BFS people state they have exercise intolerance too. So working out is miserably difficult for them too. I...

    Type of Twitching

I was told by a BFSer that ALS absolutely does not, can not, and will not manifest as this type of twitching: (thumb / forefinger pulling, holding, releasing) True or False?

The Weakness Issue - Final Verdict?

I suppose I can just go read the reports from the newly diagnosed on here, but i am too afraid to. An athletic person who lifts weights and ends up with worrysome bodywide spasms and twitching for a couple weeks .... isn't going to fail any strength tests. They're not going to fail any...

The Weakness Issue - Final Verdict?

This is directly from the NIH web site: (National Institutes of Health) "The onset of ALS may be so subtle that the symptoms are frequently overlooked. The earliest symptoms may include twitching, cramping, or stiffness of muscles; muscle weakness affecting an arm or a leg; slurred and nasal...

The Weakness Issue - Final Verdict?

And one more issue: Why would someone who was athletic and muscular ..... show any "clinical weakness" that fast? Seriously. The strength tests I hear about are almost humorous to me. Someone who goes to the gym and pushes even 45lb dumbbells a month prior, isnt going to fail on one of...

The Weakness Issue - Final Verdict?

I have been having a lot of difficulty nailing down the answer to this one question. "Does ALS ever start with twitching in the absence of clinical weakness?" You may feel this is a closed topic, but from what I've seen, its not. I have read more than two individuals on here who plainly...

BFS Community view of ALS twitching

Thanks for helping me "Get a clue" . And why are my posts being moderated now? Geez ...

    My Situation

Thank you Scottslassie. All it takes is a little bit of research (about 4 seconds of it) via Google to find the information on the association between Hep B vaccine and MS. Im actually surprised you've never even heard of it, given you work with MS patients.... The court in france even ruled...

BFS Community view of ALS twitching

I want to comment that it has been users *here* on this site who have repeatedly stated that they had twitching before any atrophy or weakness, so that is the only reason I am questioning this. Members here who are diagnosed with ALS said this was their experience.

BFS Community view of ALS twitching

It's been bothering me because the main BFS site plainly states that if you have muscle twitching with no weakness or generalized fatigue, then you do not have ALS. And that ALS does not begin with muscle twitching by itself, but in fact the twitching comes after atrophy and weakness has...

    My Situation

Thanks again. Im just another person who suddenly has body-wide twitching, vibrating, etc ... you've heard the stories 100 times, and im learning slowly what differentiates it from ALS. I can't see a neurologist until the 17th (2.5 weeks) but I suspect I will be diagnosed with BFS at that...

    My Situation

Thank you for your response. And that's why I am here. If after reading all of that you simply shake your head and say "why are you here?" then I have my answer. I appreciate you taking the time to read it. Im a thorough individual and always at least "ask" ... so that's what this was. :)

    Do I have ALS

I believe those are symptoms of disc degeneration and pinched nerves. So you have your diagnosis yeah?

    My Situation

Looks like I cant edit my post due to forum rules. I wanted to add - any input any of you have is welcome. Even if it has nothing to do with ALS. I actually run a health site similar to this and i know how exhausting it is when the "worried well" post with crazy random symptoms. I value...
