Still hanging around with no big changes.

I'm new to posting but have been a lurker, learning from everyone's experiences. I was diagnosed in January. Things are progressing but I have a great support system, both family and friends and multidisciplinary medical team. I am blessed.

BobbyRay, glad to hear from you!
Tkthiede, nice of you to join us! Keep lurking and posting-it helps your overall mental health.:)

So, this week has not been good for my extremities. I fell Monday night coming out of a restaurant on the step heading to the parking lot. I had my husband's arm since steps and I don't get along any more. (I know...I wasn't using the rollator. My daughter already yelled at my husband and I.) I took the step and the legs wouldn't hold me up. I hollered that I was going down and he went down with me. I fell on my wrist and elbow. So now I have a very sore wrist on the same wrist and hand that already are extremely weak.

Last night while my husband was at work, my son took me to the condo association annual meeting. Used my wheelchair. My son helped me out of the chair in the garage and as I took the half-step threshold into the house, down I went again. My son caught me at the end of the fall, however my ankle and foot bent backward as I fell. No severe pain but I could not put my weight on it. My son carried me to the chair. Ice for a some time, then went to bed. It is not badly swollen, so today I keep it elevated and do nothing! I have obviously injured something but doesn't appear to be a break.

It just angers me how limited my legs are making me. Two falls in one week!!! I'm grounded to my chair now like a little kid. :cautious:Our big retirement trip is next week-I can't be laid up with injuries!!!!!

Oh Cathy, I am so sorry. Do you have a pwc or an order in place to get one? That’s the next step (no pun intended). You can probably also borrow one from your loaner closet. It seems like a big leap, but it’s better than failing. Falls speed progression.

I was vacationing on the coast this past weekend and fell in my hotel room. Fortunately no serious injuries. I was using my walker and fell backwards. So I know it’s more pwc use for me. Falls suck! ALS sucks! Hoping you feel better, Cathy.

Actually, the medical supply representative just called today. It arrived with them today and will be delivered on Monday or Tuesday! Crazy, huh?

Cathy,
I'm so sorry about the falls. The falls I've had have been reckless and entirely my fault. I'm so glad to hear your chair is coming early next week.
Karen,
Falls suck, ALS sucks ever more. I hate hearing you fell while on vacation. I hate looking at my walker and PWC but I'm glad I have them.

This must be the week of everyone falling.
Cathy- Hope you didn't do any real damage and feeling better soon
Karen - glad yours wasn't serious as well
I myself took a tumble. Don't know how I did it but I did. Managed to fall between the toilet and the wall in my bathroom. Nursing a black and blue on my ribcage and another one on the back of my leg. My husband went out today and bought support bars for both bathrooms.
Falls double suck and als is the biggest suck

If that wasn't bad enough, today I tried on 3 pairs of pants that had gotten to big from my weight loss one being my favorite pair of jeans, and guess what? I couldn't close any of them I've put too much weight back on!
That's a triple suck!!!!

Welcome to the "Buddah Belly"Club, Lisa! Even tiny folks like you and "never had a waist in my life" people like me have them now. Plus boobs that fall to your belly button instead of where they really belong. They need a road map..."You girls park it here, not down there!"

I've gained 10 pounds since last Summer due to inactivity.....and eating too much.

I had to squeeze into dress pants for a funeral recently.....thank God for stretchy material.

I looked at Mayo's records and I went from 115 to 145 since my diagnosis. Part of it is my thyroid (Hashimoto's) but most of it is just pigging out.

I hate wearing bras but put up with them when I play cards in the social room or church. Other than that I just wear some layers and let them hang.

I found a picture of the day I was officially diagnosed. I actually had a flat stomach at age 60.

Indeed you did, Kim. Indeed you did. Just a beautiful physique. Running on the beach will do that for you.

Remember, you are still you. I say that every morning when I look at my shaved noggin after years of compliments about my blond locks. None of that really matters any more. F—-k anyone who makes any sort of comment about how we’ve changed. Uhhh, yeah, a little bit....

The budda belly is definitely starting 😢 😢 I don't get it, I swim everyday and go to the gym twice a week. WTH????

Checking in. We can't seem to catch a break as it looks like my wife's cancer has returned for the third time. Kind of hard trying to be the caregiver of your caregiver.

We'll muddle through somehow as we always do.

So sorry, Clamdigger. It's hard when you've been the caregiver to now both of you need help. And to both worry about each other. My husband and I joke that we are in a race with each other to the cemetery. He's got a laundry list of serious health problems only getting worse by the day. I understand.
