Hi
It has been 2 years since start of fasciculations and other crazy symptoms. 3 clean EMG`s. Last EMG done a year ago. Still alot of fasciculations everywhere. Fatigue as usual. Not cramps, but precramp/stiffness in leg periodically. Clumbsy hands.

My new symptom is that I have weakness in left leg. Weakness in thigh. I can run alittle but it feels stiff and weak. No stumbling or falls yet. No dragging of foot.

Is it really possible to go from clean EMG to ALS in 2 years? Does it usually start in one leg?

Went to my GP today. No abnormalities in reflexes or other tests. I know left leg was weaker, he agreed, but no clinical weakness, he said. That leads me to a knew question: Is it possible to have clean reflexes and hofmanns etc, and still have ALS?

Thanks prehand:)

It's only been 1 year. I'm sorry but you don't have ALS.

No it's not possible to have your history and ALS. Your doctor is incorrect to say you have weakness but no clinical weakness. It just makes no sense. You could have a lack of stamina ( subjective) but no clinical weakness. That could be what he said or meant by what he said.

If you had ALS you would surely know it by now. Too much time has passed. You cannot have pls, because you have no UMN signs. You cannot have UMN Dom ALS, because you have no clinical signs of either.

Just relax whatever is effecting you is not ALS.

Aly

Last year you perceived it in your right calf. How is your right calf now?

Thanx Ms Pie
I really hope you are right. But believe me that the weakness is there. It is hard to get up from chair or go stairs but what confuses me is that it is just as hard to walk and run and just on that one leg (left leg EMG 2 years ago. Right leg EMG 1 year ago). When stand on my left leg and try to go down it is almost like it give up on me. It is 4 weeks since my new symptoms started.

thnx for reading and responding

That leads me to a knew question: Is it possible to have clean reflexes and hofmanns etc, and still have ALS?

No. The motor neuron damage and muscle fiber paralysis caused by ALS will lead to either hyperreflexia (pathologically brisk reflexes) or hyporeflexia (loss of reflexes), depending on which type of motor neuron damage is predominant. Notice that the keyword there is paralysis. If you have been having the symptoms you complain of for two years without showing signs of clinical weakness and paralysis, then you don't have ALS.

It really is that simple, despite your apparent inexplicable wish to be diagnosed with ALS. Good luck to you.

Thanx for the respons. Alot of reassuring words. Hope you are all right. But I read about all those strange symptoms that eventually leads to ALS. I am concerned that it really is clinicle weakness, it sure feels like it when testing myself.

About my right leg, it is just like for 2 years ago. No change.

Thx
