Chelation therapy is another scam that has been heavily advertised towards ALS patients. Proponents/advocates claim chelation therapy neutralize free radicals and eliminate dangerous metals from the body. Chelation therapies and the claims made by proponents online are widely held to be false and/or intentionally misleading. What is Chelation Therapy?Chelation therapy is popular in the United States. Chelation therapy is a series of intravenous infusions containing a sythetic amino acid (EDTA) and various other substances. The question of whether it does more good than harm remains controversial, and has been touted online as a miracle cure for a variety of ailments. There are MANY horrible side effects of chelation therapy, so intense are these side effects that they rarely justify using this therapy. Chelation therapy is a series of intravenous infusions containing a sythetic amino acid (EDTA) and various other substances. It is approved and effective for hypercalcemia and poisoning by heavy metals such as lead (not mercury!). However, advocates of chelation therapy falsely claim it is effective against ALS progression, and a variety of other terminal illnesses.
