Timlin and friends to return for charity race

Race Begins: Sunday, June 25th, 2006.

Red Sox pitcher Mike Timlin returns to Hopkinton High School tomorrow morning as honorary guest for a charity race benefiting research into amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, which took his mother Sharon’s life four years ago.

This year, he’s bringing a few friends. According to organizer Abbie Rosenberg, a few unnamed teammates will be on hand to help the hurler sign autographs, and several of the Sox wives,

Tiffany Ortiz, Ashley Papelbon and Timlin’s wife, Dawn will be running the race. Many members of Timlin’s family from Florida and Texas will also be there.

The Sharon Timlin Memorial 5K Race, now in its third year, is expected to draw at least 500 runners and many more onlookers and sports fans. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. on the loop road behind the high school.

Proceeds will benefit Angel Fund, a nonprofit that pays for research into ALS at Mass General Hospital. The past two races have raised more than $160,000.
