This page is dedicated to individuals with ALS/MND that have made a significant contribution to ALS awareness and to the ALS community. There are a number of individuals that deserve to be mentioned on this page including members of this forum, as well as many people involved in awareness for people affected by ALS/MND. Please contact us if you would like to see someone special included on this page. An official award for ALS/MND research can be found through the International Alliance of ALS/MND Associations. Elizabeth Grandbois, Canada (2006)Affiliation: ALS Society of Canada (ALS/MND CAN)
Elizabeth Grandbois was born in Burlington, Ontario in 1952. Elizabeth was diagnosed with ALS in 1998, this is her eighth year living with MND.
Elizabeth has been a strong advocate in raising awareness for ALS across Canada through her annual fundraiser aptly titled “Elizabeth's Concert of Hope”. Elizabeth's hardwork, dedication, and never say quit attitude has helped increase awareness of ALS (motor neuron disease) throughout North America. 2006 is the last year of the concert, and will be capped off with an eight concert tour from September through November of 2006. These final concerts will stretch across 8 different provinces. The goal of the concerts has always been to raise awareness about ALS and raise funds for research and support services. Elizabeth's Concert of Hope has raised over $1.6 million dollars for national ALS research and local support services. John Bell, United Kingdom (2006)Affiliation: Motor Neurone Disease Association (ALS/MND UK)
Let's start by honouring one individual from the United Kingdom named John Bell, born 1974 (age 32 at the time of this article).
John is in his 4th year of ALS, is a father of two, and will leave behind a beautiful wife when MND takes his life.
John has shared his personal struggle with MND through his website and lends his name and photos of his physical decline to the Motor Neurone Disease Association in order to raise awareness of this deadly disease.
