Hello and welcome to Joe , sadiemae , and geri , you have come to the right place xx
Hi Alida , that looks similar to what I am going to have , which I had a demonstration trial at home . Mine is called a hydrolic stair climber .
I am just waiting for carers and my son to be trained on its use . xx

Hello my name is Johanne, I live in Miami, Florida. I am a caregiver to my husband who had a massive stroke 5 years ago. I was forced to move to my parents house due to financial burdens.
my parents home is a two story home and I have to struggle bringing my husband down every morning and up every night, since all the bedrooms are upstairs. My back is hurting me and don't know what to do, I am frustrated
Does anyone have any suggestions?
I've heard that a stair lift would be the solution but they are so expensive and I cannot afford it at this point. Does anyone know of an organization donating them? Or does Medicare covers that?
Thank you.

Welcome to the forum!
You mention that you are a caregiver to a stroke patient, your husband. So, I'm guessing he hasn't been diagnosed with ALS/ MND. If I'm mistaken and he has, I'd say the first place to start looking for help with a stair climber would be your local MDA or ALSA organization.
What you might do is check classifieds in your local paper or online at sites like craig's list
for someone who has one but may be trying to sell it/get rid of it. There are instances where someone may have purchased a home with one and has no need of it.
Someone else on the forum may be of more help. I'm sorry your husband had the stroke.

Hello, I am fairly new to the forum and a Veteran with 1 year 6 months in Viet Nam. I have a letter now from my primary care doctor, who 5 years ago was a VA doctor. His letter is very explecit that I am diagnosed with ALS(Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) and he spells out all the test that were done and the involvment Johns Hopkins played and my local Neuroligist. I have had 5 operations on my legs so far and another one Dec 11 becaue of a secondary problem of dioxin poisining of my entire nervious system. At this point I am just concentrating on the ALS as I did have in a number of claims for related things till they finaly put it all together. I am currently at 70% which I guess will hurt me as it will take a 90% rating to get me to 100%. I am wheel chair bound currently or sometimes dual crutches to get 50 ft or less. I am afraid I will file some part of the claim wrong and end up messing myself up. The DAV is my rep but I have heard that a PVA rep is better. So much information to learn in such a short time.

Question to all of you that are experianced with this kind of stuff. I have a mortgage for my home through Capitol one. Its a pretty sizable payment because up untile I got ALS I made very good money and was on top of the works. Now I will be out of work. Are there any programs out there to at least help me dispose of this home befor going belley up. I currently have good credit but know that is not going to last long after I miss a few paymets as I am sure Capitol one does not care about my problems just their money,
Dave

Hello Dave. Welcome. If you send a private message to Zenarcher, he may be able to help with the VA paperwork.

Hello to moderator and all. I'm a newbe with dx confirmed beginning of this month following a year with dr. Google. After seeing neruo and others, I feel I am months (emotionally) ahead of family as they often react badly to the news. Lots of questions already answered in threads, for this I thank you all. As my hands and arms (some swallowing) w minor R leg seem to be hit hardest, not sure how much longer I can teach H.S. My spirits good, but wife hurting badly. All kids grown, I'm 54. Life still, is truly sweet! Love your quotes and encouragement.

Hello all - i am relatively new (October) my wife was confirmed Dx in June 09 and has declined "rapidly" as they said at our last visit. FVC down to 25%. We are still holding strong, all things considered. We live an hour north of Chicago and have young twins to keep us occupied in our "free" time. I have already found lots of useful information and a few friends. Look forward to more of both on this journey.

I've been on the forum for a couple of months now, and just now realized there was an "Introduce Yourself" thread so...I am married to an amazing man, who is in the process of being diagnosed- currently "unspecified MND/Cramping Fasciculations Syndrome"...Have found this forum to be an incredible resource and support!
My only excuse for not doing this sooner, is I'm 'technology challenged' and still learning how to navigate this site!
Peace,
