I have been asked to be a judge for the
"2009 ALS Awards for Excellence in Design to Improve the Quality of Life with ALS"
so will be in Vancouver from this Thursday through Saturday. There are a bunch of Engineering students who are developing devices to help PALS. Here are the entries;

1. Homer: A Simple Text to Speech Interface
2. Automated Communication Board
3. Back Rest and Chest Support
4. Remote Controlled Retractable Foot Rest
5. Eye-Gaze Tracking and Human Computer Interface System for ALS Patients
6. Single Click Communications System
7. Communications Software with Headband Activator
8. Dynamic Neck Brace for ALS Patients
9. Motorized ALS Neck Brace

I will let you know how it went and how promising these projects look.
There are people out there that are concerned enough about PALS that they are trying to develop aids to make our lives easier!

God Bless them!

what fabulous news -- thanks Joelc.

Joel, I'm so glad that you are able and willing to do this for all of us! Thanks and please extend our thanks to all of the participants (students, judges, etc) for thinking of us. The more that bright young students think about this the more that will be available for everyone.:idea::idea:

That's great Joel. That'll keep you off the streets and out of trouble for a few days. LOL.

Joel, you are our guy. Thanks so much...Keep us informed friend.

Excellent Joel!
They couldn't have chosen anyone better!

I'm back!

Had a fantastic time judging the projects!

There were 12 in total and some of them look incredibly promising!

I wish I could get healed so I can manufacture some of them!

In the next few days, after the awards are given and winners are announced, I will tell you about some of them.

I am very curious about Motorized ALS Neck Brace! Can't wait. D

All is right with the world when we have Joel out there working for PALS!

Hi everyone!

Here is the motorized neck brace we helped the engineering students develop.

They even named Christine and I as co-creators.

Have a look through the site and watch the videos.

They did an awesome job!
