After several discussions with ramp specialists I decided to have a carpenter build a ramp. Metal ones that you can rent are okay but are expensive (initial cost $600.00, monthly rent $250) and do not give the solid feel of wood and concrete set posts. Cost to build $1,600. Also, I did not realize that once up the ramp there was also a 5 inch lip at the door threshold. I scrambled to find a threshold ramp on the internet but could not find one that would fit. I built one instead. Hope the following link works. Should be four pictures.

If this works you will see the pictures of the threshold ramp and the main ramp

You should be able to see the same one(s) as I do. I only see one. But it sure looks nice. VERY WELL DONE!

think I fat fingered the URLs on the other three pictures. It looks a lot better placed in the correct position. My main point in the post is to let folks know that a contacted wooden ramp is not only more attractive but much less expensive and gives a solid feel as oppose to the rental of a metal ramp.
I will try again to post the other three pictures.

Thanks for the accolades.

Here goes. Another attempt to post the remaining ramp pictures.

I'm not sure what is happening to the photos that I keep posting. everything seems in order when I paste the photo's URL but the pictures never appear. can anyone tell me if there is some restriction to posting pictures? it is curious that the post is delayed (I would guess for validation of content) and I assume rejected by moderator. trying one more time.

That ramp looks great!

For those of us that are not so handy, I found a folding "suitcase ramp" to use for the step-down between our kitchen and family room. It's made by a company called Prarie View Industries.

I have also thrown it in the back of the van in case we're out and there is a need. It comes in a number of lengths.

Sorry! If you attach files, the forum algorithm can sometimes delay post till a moderator approves.

Nice ramp! I like the easy slope that was built in. Should be perfect!

We, too, have a wood ramp. Originally, it only had a 1" lip on either side. We've since added to it so that it now has about 5". Darcey told her neurologist that it was possible that she might go over the side and that her last living words would be"Oh Shit!..." as she fell into the abyss.

Again, well done, my friend!

I like Darcy's sense of humor. And by the way, what a great picture of what I assume is Darcy and you that you sent me as an example of imgur.com. What a Beaty she is.
