My mom has trouble getting to her drink now, getting it on and off of the end table is nearly impossible , I was looking around and found this, I am going to order it for her, with tall sports bottle and long straw I'm hoping that she won't have to lift her drink at all.

My Chris could never suck through a straw - weakness and no lip seal.

I designed a gadget that a friend then made for us and he retained a tiny bit of movement in one finger right to the end and could use it right through.

This video was the first time he used it, when he could still move his whole arm, but it did work right through.

He was only taking tiny sips of thickened coffee, usually only drank half an inch from any cupful in the last months, but the independence it gave him to have those few sips was important for him.

Thanks for sharing this couch coaster!

affected -- you should have looked into a safe straw...it prevents the backflow of fluids back into the cup. It's a great straw for those with poor suction or difficulty maintaining suction.

ravenmxc I got one of them, was a total failure. Believe me I tried just about every straw imaginable.

My husband was bulbar onset, he could not suck from quite early.

Jenny, I wonder if it would work on my lift chair. I hate reaching over to the end table. I had it elevated so it's the right height just hate twisting my waist.
