My husband never lost his voice, I know some do. My sister works with autisic children, 1 who can read but is non verbal. They bought him a cordless phone at a tag sale for 3$.
Instead of names and number in the contact list, they put in things like hungry, water, restroom, happy, sad, etc. He just tabs to the word he needs and shows everyone at schools just what he needs, the other kids think he is cool. I thought this may be helpful for people that have some finger movement but no voice.
