I participated in the March For Science yesterday in my home town of Vancouver. There were 2 to 3 thousand attendees (no official count yet). I really only expected a few people to show up, as Vancouver is notoriously low key when it comes to enthusiasm about anything other than yoga pants, artisanal beer, and organic and environmentally sustainable coffee, or the odd hockey riot when the Canucks inevitably choke at the worst possible moment.
It was heartening to see not only the volume of people, but the age of the attendees and the content of their signs. If they are even a tiny sample of who is practicing and utilizing science in their professions right now, there is a huge hope for the future in research directly impacting neurological patients and their care.
