Today has been a spectacularly beautiful day. The sun has been out all day. With the rains we have had over the last 2 months, everything is green and lush.

So, with a full charge, I headed out the door to catch the 9:19 AM bus. That dropped me off about 7 miles away at the Vail transportation center. From there, I wheeled to the Lionshead area and boarded the gondola. The view from the top of the gondola was spectacular.

I met a wonderful person at the top who showed me how to navigate various ramps and trails to get to the main dirt road that winds about 7 miles to the bottom of the ski area.

The ride down was spectacular. There were a few obstacles to overcome, but nothing that would be classified as an adventure:)

When I got to the base, I toured around a bit and then headed out to the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens. The flowers and trees there were amazing, as usual. I then made my way home. The total trip was about 4 hours and covered 13.5 miles. It was a great time.

Here are a few pictures from today's journey.

  1. The view from the bus stop
  2. Mid Vail, which is at the top of Gondola One. This was about a mile or so into my trip down the Village Trail
  3. The Village Trail crossing a ski run
  4. The Village Trail entering a grove of aspens
  5. Vail Village from the Village Trail
  6. Beautiful house, Vail Village, and Gore Range, from the Village Trail
  7. Me at the same spot
  8. The Gore Range from Golden Peak

I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them!

Steve

Gorgeous! Thank you for sharing. I told Patrick he should publish his poems. I Think you should make a book of your travels and pictures. Really inspiring

Keep posting Steve! Love the stories and the pictures.

I'm with nikki. That would be awesome. No wonder you aren't keen to leave. Driving around would lift your spirits immeasurably.

I love your pictures! I am getting my new power chair next Wednesday and cannot wait to get out and about in it

Steve, the photos are spectacular! You must have a good camera. You're so lucky to live near a gondola and be able to ride on it with your pwc.

Ok, so when I think gondola, I think back to 1995 when I was in Venice...please help with what a gondola in Colorado looks like?
The bloke with the stick thing in Venice was pretty hot mind you...I was 23...all young European men were hot!
God bless, Janelle x

Charlene: I do have a good camera, which I use mostly for taking wildlife photographs. The pictures from my wheelchair rides have all been taken with my trusty cell phone (Samsung Galaxy S4).

Janelle: Gondola can certainly mean different things. At our ski area, it is a type of ski lift with enclosed cars that can detach from the cable they ride on. This allows the cable to move at a high speed and for the gondola cars to move at a low speed for loading and unloading. Here is link to more information than you would ever want to know about them:) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gondola_lift

Max: Thanks for the encouragement and for sharing the pictures of your place in Colorado. I remember that fire well and have pictures of the smoke plume from the west. I am so sorry for the loss you suffered there.

To everyone: Thanks for the encouragement. I will do my best to keep having adventures and sharing the resulting pictures.

Thank you for the link Steve, makes perfect sense now!
Also in a different thread I read you and Lori have been married 30 years...awesome. A real testament to your love and commitment to each other.
God bless, Janelle x
