Just wanted to share a happy story! Yesterday we celebrated Jim's 40th birthday (His actual Bday is tomorrow.) This was a day I was told he probably wouldn't make it to! (He was diagnosed with FTD and MND 7/2/09, with ALS 12/7/09 - we were told average life expectancy is 18-36 months - here we are 4 years later.)

We had such an awesome turnout we had to change the original room because we had 2x the people we expected to RSVP! We ended up with about 80 friends and family. Jim was not totally surprised - I guess he knew something was going on despite my best efforts. Oh well it was a great time! (Jim's nickname is Shaggy - thus the Scooby Doo theme)

Looking through the pictures I was suprised to see the number of real smiles Jim had yesterday. So few and far between. Upon pulling into the parking lot he saw the "Happy 40th Shaggy" sign and he gave my mom his shy smile and with tears in his eyes asked "Did you do that for me?" It was nice to see some emotion for a change!

Totally awesome. Great story and looks like it was a great time. wonderful memories.

How fun!
And not only did he prove the doctors wrong, he is still walking on his own. That's really wonderful.
