Dear Santa
I've always been your biggest fan,
As wee, wee boy and now old man.
You bring such joy year after year,
A Fed Express for Christmas cheer.
Young faces shine with sheer delight,
On Christmas mornings 'fore first light.
Your gentle prod ... It is more blessed
To give than to receive ... expressed.
Yet here I am with cap in hand,
To seek your help not quite as planned.
Advancing years can take a toll,
"Shit happens," that we can't control.
I wish to be a good wee lad,
To stay upbeat and not get sad.
Perhaps you have in your big sack,
The means to help me stay on track.
More than enough with some to spare,
So all with ALS can share.
Help us accept what we may lose,
And cope with grace what e'er ensues.
Help us accept the proffered hand,
Unhelpful pride had best be banned.
Help us give thanks for what we have,
Keep open hearts, with room for love.
Forgive me, sir, I ask too much,
Do what you can, but stay in touch.
I'll watch for you this Christmas Eve,
As overhead your reindeer weave.
And if you're ready for a break
Drop in you'll find me wide awake.
We'll share a dram, a cosy chat
Old farts who know just "where it's at."
If not, take care, do get some rest,
From all of us ... the very best!
