I've been paying on a Critical Care insurance policy. On April 29 I was diagnosed (actually I have one more test to do - EMG) and after the EMG test my neurologist said he would fill out the paper to file for Critical Care benefits.

I am also filing for SSI because most of the Critical Care Benefit will go to pay off my mortgage.

My daughter says the Critical Care benefit will kick me off SSI
I say it won't.

Who is correct?

Sandy

stumble the fact that have not got a final diagnosis of ALS is probably the reason you did not get approved for SSI yet. I don't know for a fact, but I don't think an insurance policy will have anything to do with Disability. That is based on your diagnosis and the amount you earned in your work lifetime.

Stumble, check out the link Atsugi posted and research countable assets. Any income counts, but the house you live in doesn't. Check with Social Security, but perhaps if you receive a lump sum and pay off the house before applying for SSI, then the house doesn't count and you are not receiving income.
