One year ago I got the news no one wants to hear. "I'm sorry Sir, but ALS is at the top of my list"
This is what my Neuro told my wife and I. I turned every shade of green, my knees buckled, and I tried to hold back throwing up while beads of sweat ran down my face.
All I could say was "But, I'm only 40!"
40 or not, it was happening. Shortly after that, my official diagnosis came from the ALS Centre.
All I could think of is why me, why this curse?
Well, a lot has happened this past year for me. I realize it's not the end of the world.
I see things differently now.
I love unconditionally.
I want to share something I wrote after my diagnosis that helped me(and still gets me through every day)
Every day you wake up is a good day,
Every day you can sit up and put your feet on the ground is a great day,
Every day you can walk to the kitchen, make a coffee and feed the kids is an incredible day,
Every day you can tell your wife and loved ones how much they mean to you is a perfect day.
Everyday is a gift, a miracle.
I for one will never forget what each and every day means to me.
I thank my Forum family for helping me get through my first year.
Cheers,
Casey
