not that I can speak anymore but a friend is urging me to get a trache but i just can't face it

Hi, I know that my husband will not be able to speak sooner/later don't know. We have noticed that his voice is not as strong and he will need a trache. He wants to put it off as much as he can, but he has to help is a little dynavox that speaks for him when he is not up to it or cannot. When he gets to a whisper he has an amplifier (separate item) that if he whispers it will project loud enough -comes with a headset and microphone. I do not know if any of this helps but it could be a start.

I do not know if he will be able to speak and swallow but you might want to look into the above to help. I do not know if this is any help but it is what I am thinking at this moment watching my husband.

It depends on what type you get. with a cuffless trach, you can still talk. swallowing isnt affected by the trach. but, as you know, the disease can take them both away. getting a trach wont stop it.
