I know ALS is a horrible thing for anyone to have to deal with BUT there is no denying that it is a life changing experience and can have some positive effects on ones life. There is a saying, "If you take the time to think of all the things you appreciate, you will have no time to complain."

A little background:
My Dad was diagnosed with the bulbar ALS when I was 21 (I'm now 23). He recently passed away on March 15, 2012 and has left a void in my life which I will never fill.

So here we go...

I am Grateful...

-to have had such a wonderful, courageous, kind, loving father

-for such brave mother and brother who support me

-for my ability to see life from a very unique prospective

-that I try to appreciate the little things in life and not dwell on crap

-my dad was such a good role model for me

-for my faith in god.

-the letters my dad wrote me when he had ALS

-I was able to help my dad when he needed me most

-I have no guilty feeling towards my dad

-that I was able to continue my education despite having a loved one deal with ALS

-that there are other people out there that can relate to what I went through

-there may be a cure for ALS in my lifetime

-All the support my family got through the ALS society. The donations really help those who need it.

...I could go on forever but I have to go to bed now... :)

Good for you for finding the positive

Brendan, that was very thoughtful and sweet. I'm sorry about your father. You sound like an incredible young man.

Good luck to you and your studies.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Beautiful sentiments.

I'm grateful for all the wonderful sons and daughters that help their PALS
