So my mom got a diagnosis today she might have ALS, this has been a first opinion. The symptoms seem identical, with her legs starting to give way and starting to lose feeling in her arms. Shes still young and I dont know what to do. My family is devastated and I was hoping I could get some help here.

Thanks

Very sorry to hear this. Was this opinion from a neuromuscular specialist or are you seeing one as a second opinion? That is really important. And has she had an mri blood work and ncs/ EMG testing? You said " might" which sounds as if there is room for doubt?

She had the Emg testing, the doctor basically confirmed it. but i said might because we want a second opinion. Shes had many tests done, 3 MRIs and about 3 CT scans. All which came back negative, but this EMG test came with these results.

Again very sorry. Yes a second opinion is always a good idea when the stakes are so high. You will find lots of information here. There is a sticky in the general subforum about second opinions and initial clinic visits. It is normal to feel devastated now of course. We have all been there and you will find lots of support here. Give yourself and your mom time to absorb the shock- even if you suspected it it is a terrible terrible day when you hear those words. There is life after diagnosis but right now allow yourself to grieve and support each other. Sorry that you have to join us
