My beautiful mother Neina passed away on March 8/2009 of ALS. She was diagnosed in August of 2008. I have never posted in the forum before but I always visited and read the threads. I often would tell my mom about some of the stories that I have read. I took comfort in this site...to know that we were not the only family going thru this.
My mom right hand started tingling back in Januray 2008...after many appointments, hand surgery...possible shoulder surgery...(Dr thought it was a pinch nerve), did she see a specialist that gave her diagnosed. Mom was very active until December...that when she seemed to slow down a bit. It wasn't until this pass week that she became very weak...she depended on her breathing machine all the time, she needed help with everything. On thursday we took her to the hospital because her bowels became backed up. Saturday things were looking better and we talked about taking her home on Monday...(she wanted to be home to watch the beginning of Dancing with the stars). We were all called in on sunday afternoon with shocking news. Mom breathing was getting very shallow and the circulation of her feet and hands had stopped. 11.30pm Mom closed her eyes and took her last breath. Her room was filled with family and close friends.
Mom was a very outgoing, she devoted herself to her husband Gene and her children. She was "Nanny" to all of her grandchildren. She will be missed every day...but none of us could or would ask to have her back to suffer again. She now is with God who will keep her safe...until we meet again.
