Smile when facing death

It seems today it can still be forced, can death
Terminal Illness talking away life’s very last breath
If this happens to you then try hard not to frown
Try hard not to drag others sadly too feeling down

Death would happen in time of this please be sure
But for many folk like me there is sadly no cure
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis it is terminal for many
130 years ongoing and still no cure not any

Government say terminal is six months or less
Adding to anxiety causing greater again distress
But there are many countless folk prepared to give aid
To you, family and loved one’s the path is well laid

Think on them solely spend time making smiles
Give them each a reason over life’s final miles
Death has been faced by uncountable others
Know this and smile for family sister’s brothers

Give your children a very good reason to laugh
Rather than drown in your deaths after math
Make each of your family and friends ever smile
Making it a comfortable and memorable last mile

I know there will be days you will smile and frown
Days that your tears will indeed let you down
But remember at heart you don’t face this alone
Family and friends face this too on their own

I’m just a normal man typing this with one finger
Trying to inspire hope that will maybe help or linger
Maybe help those facing this, the untold many others
Bringing a smile to families fathers and mothers

It is braver to face death with a broad beaming smile
Leaving memories to linger and cherish all the while
I know it’s not easy for indeed I faced this myself too
Hence the sole reason I write this to each one of you

Yes Al but the poem is talking to those who are living and not the dead?

Christopher, my mom passed on February 7th, and she lived the way you speak of in your poem. Not a day went by without a smile from her. Please know that your words are touching and reaching the living here. What a nice, unexpected gift I received by reading this today. A reminder to live my life, with a smile for my loved ones.
