We buried my brother on Friday. He started having symptoms in the spring of 2009, was diagnosed in December 2009, and died 8/22/11, having survived ALS for only 2-1/2 years.
I am glad his suffering is over. He woke up last Monday and lived for two more hours, and he died 20 minutes after losing consciousness, so he didn't struggle. His throat muscles had collapsed during the night and he couldn't breathe. He had refused all invasive help (no breathing tube or feeding tube).
Thanks for all the support everyone has given me on here, especially with my craziness in mentally handling his disease (I developed BFS 18 months ago and still have it).
