Hi,
I just joined and am totally new at this,I was diagnosed on Oct 6 2009.I'm sure after talking to my team that I've already had it for a couple years. So I'm learning to use these forums. So please bear with me.
Len;-)

Hi and welcome,

I am sorry for your diagnosis, but you have found the best place to get answers and to find new friends. The people here are great and will answer any question no matter how silly you think it is. My mom was diagnosed early this year and I came here when I was feeling lost and scared. Thanks to everyone here I no longer feel that way, they have helped so much and I hope we can do the same for you.

Hi Len,sorry to hear of your diagnosed you will find great support on these forums, if you have question there are many who have great knowledge.
Do you have ALS clinics in Whitehorse if so That would be a great place to contact.Welcome Newbie

Hi Len,

Welcome aboard. You will find this an informative and welcoming place. If you are like many newly diagnosed PALS, you are likely in shock and turmoil. Remarkably, many PALS find the first several months the worst even though their symptoms are in the early stages. You will find many ways to ameliorate your symptoms and hopefully, find your progression less frightening than it may seem to you now. As well, if your diagnosticians think you've had it for a couple of years, I would take that as a very good sign that you may have slow progression. Medical researchers are working hard to find therapies and you may well be a recipient of their discoveries.

Wow,How to make a person feel goooooooooooood, thank you everyone"God Bless" you all.

Hi Len,
My name is Ed and I am also new here. But not new to ALS as I have been a caregiver for many months. My wife was diagnosed in Novemberf of 2007. Like you we suspect that there were signs at least a year earlier. So together I expect we will both learn a lot from this forum. In my reading here I have already learned of another helpful site, Turning Points in ALS at tpals.org. Here in Ohio we have had invavluable support from the Cleveland Clinic, the ALS Assoc., and MDA(Muscular Dystrophy Assoc.). We are signed up with all of them. Learn all that you can, you know that you have to take charge. And cherish every day, an old cliche but so important. God bless you. And God bless all the PALS and CALS that contribute here.

welcome Len...there are a whole lot of great people on hear to help and listen.

Hi Len, welcome to the forum... I am sure you are in the total disbeleive stage? I am very sorry to hear of your diagnosed. It has been a few months for me . I do think in a lot of ways the first little while is the worse. This sure is up there with the most awful things that can happen to us... Now I just call my hard days ,moments, it will pass and I can go on living each day the best I can...With all the ups and downs It is comforting to go to this forum. Someone out there will always know what you are going through, help with the many questions that come up.They never mind talking about the disease or feel uncomfortable .. I don't want to talk much to my friends about it very often, but the friends out there that I hardly know get to hear all the heart felt feelings about what is going on with me. Just know you are not alone and you have a place to turn to.. Big Hugs, Linda
