I know there have been posts about strange realistic sensations - but does anyone else just suddenly feel as though - for example -someone just threw a glass of cold water on your leg? Or you have a large bug crawling up your arm and there is no bug?

There are a number of sensations I have felt, at different times of day, in different settings. I mentioned these to the doc but he didn't seem to think there was any importance to them.

I'm just curious - do others feel these as well?

Yes, I do. Crawling feeling, Stinging, itching and buzzing sensation. I take gabapentin(sp) for the nerve pain. It gets worse with stress and fatigue.

I use to get the sensation that my feet were in ice water, yet they were warm to the touch. They would happen at any random time and would last for minutes to hours. I don't get those sensations anymore. I also would get the buggy feeling too and very rarely will still get if, but again, they are disappearing. I stopped taking gabapin years ago. Now I have intense itching on any part of my body. Not the dry skin type of itch, but deep down that is unquenchable. Sometimes the itch that will burn when scratched and will cause swelling. It's not allergy or anything we can identify at this point. Only thing that seems to help relieve it is ice water. Go figure!

Hi Joyce

I have dug myself raw a couple times because the itch would not stop. It is very frustrating.

Strange, isn't it?

I also have felt like ants crawling up my legs and in the soles of my feet.
Asked my Neuro and he said that perhaps I might have a mild muscle neuropathy running alongside ALS.

Go figure.

the startle reflex of course...everybody has that or had it.....how about goosebumps marching across your chest....thumping blood pressure like a car engine struggling to warm up on a freezing morning,,,,,and the mobile phone going off when it aint in your pocket...clonus gives lots of amusement to.......all good fun......johnny

Startle reflex and clonus are directly related to MND (specifically UMN damage).
I was referring to non MND related issues such as the sensation if like I had "ants crawling up my leg" which is not supposed to be related to MND since it's basically a sensory issue.
Neuro told me it could be mild neuropathy but I didn't know neuropathy it could coexist with MND.

Wow I get the same thing Vicki! And I take the same medicine! Aka neurotin
100mg 3x a day

Just started it April 8th

I get the buzzing......in my legs and feet 24/7 for 13yrs.
I notice the more spasticity i have the stronger the buzzing.......vice versa.

Vicki - I've heard apple cider vinegar works on the itch. May not smell better, but might be more comfortable, than ice water. Haven't tried it as I've been lucky not to have that itch . . . Yet. :)

Oh thank you, I might have to give a try.

I was thinking about this thread last 2 days and all though I been making improvements in fact doing pretty good.
Last 2 days been having phantom scents and taste but that's Parkinson's related.
It's a constant smell of old aerosol hair spray and I just call it the aqua net scent because that's what it is just like.

Yep...
I hate roaches and ever so often I could swear something is crawling across my toes or up my leg.
Yikes!

I think of ants when I get the creepy crawlies. I look every time even though I know its not a ant.
