Hi all-

I've been working with a friend who is very young (late 20's) who was recently diagnosed with ALS. Unfortunately I have the tendency to obsess, and so I believe this may have led to my paranoia, which has led me to believe I too may have ALS.

Prior to my friends diagnoses, I began experiencing fatigue in my legs & feet, where my legs would shake from weakness & my feet just feel unusual- like the padding on is inadequate for supporting my weight. I regularly stand on the sides of my feet. I also have experienced for years tingling in both my fingers & feet.

Recently I've noticed that I've had a difficult time typing, where my left hand just doesn't seem to respond well & this has turned in to what seams like a weakening left hand and arm.

Likely unrelated, I have also had a couple of years of knee issues as well as a blocked sinus for the year, likely coincidentally when I began experiencing the leg/feet weakness.

Anyway, I guess like everyone else I'm just looking for reassurance & at the moment am resisting from making the neuro appointment because I know I know I'm pretty obsessive & would spend half my life in a doctors office if I ran in every time I was concerned.

Thanks everyone.

Zach

Re: Mildly concerned

Dear Zach,

I think you already know the answer to your question. And you understand we cannot diagnose, but give our opinion.

No, I do not believe you have ALS. My symptoms and others are not like yours. As for the knee issues, you would have been diagnosed or most likely dead by now. Tingling is another. Couple that with your arm/hand weakness and typing, I would say a possibility of Carpal Tunnel.

Make an appointment with your PCP and have it checked out. And for sanities sake, leave doc tor go og le alone. We see too many people go off the deep end insisting they have this incurable deadly disease. Don't do this to yourself!

Good Luck to you,

Re: Mildly concerned

Then let me reassure you that what you describe as symptoms sound nothing like ALS.

It sounds like you are somatising.

Hmm...I had to look that one up! :)

Re: Mildly concerned

misspelled, of course somatization.

Re: Mildly concerned

I knew what you meant and totally agree with you!

Re: Mildly concerned

You do not have ALS...your symptoms are nothing like ALS, I am sure that you are internalizing your friends experiences but seriously get a grip, do not think about ALS again because you do not have it!
