:( Today we met with the neurologist and mum was diagnosed at long last with MND.
It did not come as too much of a shock, but we are very sad. Swallowing has got worse along with her breathing, so sadly having her hip replaced which has been causing her immense pain cant be done. Limbs are still strong, we queried her life expectancy, and the stony faced Dr replied. "Next winter will tell if she gets an infection." I was appauled at her lack of empathy. Saliva is a problem of course and she has been given patches to help control it. No other medication was suggested. Mum has lost a lot of weight and is not keen to use her peg. She is a stubborn woman! So what next people....I guess we wait and see if she starts losing weakness in her limbs.....she has had bulbar symptoms for about 9 months now. Progressing quickly. Is it possible that she may pass away before she loses the ability to walk, a complication with her breathing like the specialist said? Sorry if this is a difficult question, I am trying to be prepared. We will take each day as it comes. Unfortunately she doesnt live close  Take Care everyone.

I wish there were answers to your questions but there are none. Sorry about your mom.
Anything can happen at any time, no one can say what the time frame might be. That is what makes this disease so hard.
