Cool Beware of what goes on at your next Doc. Visit

When you go for your next visit take note . Does the doc enter the room and greet you with a hello my name is---------. Or does he or she enter the room looking at your chart and not you ? Does he or she enter and want to shake your hand ? Does he or she stay accross the room when interviewing you ? Does he or she act like you have cooties (no touch ) Looking at the eyes ,this is a real killer once you know what to look for you can read them like someone talking to you . "i dont know what shes doing here ? " man who sent this person here ? Or you'll get the one thats rude on purpose to get rid of you making sure you wont come back . Someone that doesnt want to touch you, dont go back ,they dont want you there . Someone that is hands on is a friendly person , will pat you on the back or not mind shaking your hand . someone you feel is rushing you out the door doesnt want you to come back . our movement is not too hot but our other scenses are Keen . This is why I can't bring myself to go back to my first neuro. On second visit she entered the room with some man, didn't introduce him, he didn't look me in the face, neither did she, she read my test results while I sat there like a doofus, made some comments to him, and then basically backed out of the room while I looked at her, incredulous. And then she had the gall to write in her report that my reflexes were normal, that my cogwheeling was gone, there was no evidence of fasciculation, tremor, weakness, etc etc....despite having not touched me or even looking in my direction. All this from the same doctor who contacted my GP with a differential dx of MND or PD after my first visit. Did she even know it was ME in the room? Gosh just thinking about it I get all worked up again. Grrrrrhhh....

Lydia, she must be really good to figure out what was wrong with you by just being in the same room with you!

next time come straight out and ask her why she can write the information down without checking you for it.... put her on the spot and she can feel like the fool

these so called specialists are to be respected...................respect is a equal two way thing.
i have no respect for people who dont respect me,this has been the situation with some doctors over the years.
they are there to do a job, they take a oath in med school to help and do there best for the patient......................sadly some forget this, develop an ego and bury there heads up there arses.

my neuro of 10yrs is very friendly and respectfull, though we have had some communication problems with me once walking out after bad words several years ago.

if a doctor shows you disrespect tell them, speak out. they are only human like us and are not better than you.
they are being paid to give you a good service,if its not complain.
i am a placid person but some things really get my goat up

OOOOOOOOK Caroline ,add the score up ,whos been a Nice Doc. and whos been a bad one . My bet is 1% good and 99% bad . Im not far off on these . Maybe one out of how many . Your suppose to be a Professional ,act like one . First you know the patient is in real distress or they wouldnt be there . Now do you not approach them fearing they may give you what they have ? Do you stay accross the room ,or do you go up ,put your hand on their shoulder and try to give some reconciliation or just maintain your distance
You know Body language goes along way in saying what you are really like . For Instance a smile goes along way and a hand shake does also . Eyes are a Big one, some people can read alot into eyes or eye contact or lack thereof . My friends always say you look like you are going to laugh all the time . I smile, even though im not feeling well . Why should my friends feel my pain . When i go to a Doc. i want to see someone who is Compassionate ,not an Educated Blob . Or an Errogant snob . Geo

Exactly! Did you know that 93% of communication is non-verbal?
Just an interesting statistic.

Yes , but 47% of that non-verbal communication is lost in just one finger on my left hand.

Some of my best friends are now a permanent part of the Vietnam Landscape because of some Placid Politicians who tried to run a war from Washington DC . My theroy is Kick some As- and take names, TOOOOO many nice people are dieing ,enough of the Mister Nice Guy crap . Time for the Incompetant to step down . Its sad and unfortunate that you can now get a Medical Degree and still be more incompetant than a 6th Grader . Shows you what goes on in those Educational Establishments . Geo and yes i stand behind what i state .

In all fairness to those in the medical field. Our bodies are very complex and I can understand why they have trouble diagnosing ailments, especially something like ALS.

I must be a lucky patient. My first Neuro was very pleasant and agreed I should go to Mayo in Jacksonville. My Neuro at Mayo, is very connected. Always shakes my and my husbands hand and smiles. Answers and questions i may have no matter how silly or basic. I did not have a regular Dr. to go to local but a friend of ours sent me to a friend of his who happens to be in oncology and hemotology. He said I could not keep going to every other specialist and did I want him to be my general Dr. I said yes and he has been wonderful. Always gives me a hug and tells me how proud of me he is. I have been blessed
But there are other Dr.'s who I have left and never gone back to. I guess they are human. My daughter put it this way. Mom, the only differnce between them and us is that they went to school longer.
