Does anyone here use a palatal lift?

I have severe dysarthria and my speech therapist referred me to Assistive Technology at Spaulding Charlestown, and also recommended I be fitted for a palatal lift. I'm worried I will gag on it, bc when the speech therapist used a tongue depressor to simulate the effect of a palatal lift, I gagged. Tell me how long it took you to get used to it? It's only hope for getting my voice back.

I don't know what that is but since PLS I have a very sensitive gag reflex. I saw several speech therapists when I was diagnosed with PLS. They were familiar with PLS and ALS. They said there was little to be done to improve your speech. They recommended speech devices.
