I just read an article on Facebook from someone who has been doing fundraising, and other things for ALS patients. What I found interesting, he stayed that pharmaceutical companies consider ALS and Orphan Disease and do not invest much money into research because they say the amount of people with any form of ALS is small compared to other diseases, even though the article stated that everyday 15 people are diagnosed, and 15 people die everyday from it. These companies need to talk to some of the people that have this, and tell them to their faces that we dont count that much for them to research a cure. That is why we have to do fundraisers, cause looks like we have to make the difference. Amazing!

Drug companies are driven by profit, ultimately. What "orphan disease" means in $$$ terms is "the people who have it doen't represent enough cases and wealth to make a lot of money on the drug before it goes generic". Sadly, they are probably right, so unless the pure researchers figure out what kind of thing would cure MND's, the drug companies aren't going to spend a lot of time trying to figure out how to make such a thing.
