thankyou everyone.
well the good news is its nothing sinister, they did an ultrasound and found it was something similar to gynecomastia.
gynecomastia is hormonal and develops in puberty causing swelling of the breast area...........man breasts.
this goes away after 3-18 months but in some cases can leave a hard mass that requires surgery.
my son is 22yrs and has been through puberty way back lol so to develop hard mass at the back of nipple and breast area is unusual.
the bad news is it will require surgery, the consultant said the surgery is complicated because men have no breast tissue.
he said if they take too much of the mass away the nipple has no support causing it to droop................well i could not stop laughing at that.........droopy nipple.
so now we have to just wait,as its not an emergency it could be some months.
i have to say the breast diognostic clinic we went to was very good,in less than 3hrs they do the tests and then you see the specialist for diagnosis though if you need a biopsy it takes longer.
so alls well that ends well, though now we need to get him back to the renal clinic so they can continue to keep an eye on him.
sorry for my fretting,i do worry when it comes to my son or my cats lol.
hope everyone is as well as you can be.
caroline

Woot!

I had a breast reduction when I was 17, and I can imagine the extra complications for a guy. I hope your house features a comfy recliner... sleeping sitting up to let the fluid drain for the first few days is a must!

Caroline, I don't know how I missed this update before now, but I'm so very glad this has turned out to be non-cancerous.

Hi Caroline,
I'm with Ann don't know how I missed this post either.I am so glad that it is benign.I know what it's like to worry about your son.I was like a crazy person when Rich (my only child too) was diagnosed with cancer .Jan 29 th will be 8 yrs since he passed.Hope you are doing ok .we don't get to talk that much anymore.Larry goes the 21st to his neuro.Larry thinks he has PLS it's been 4yrs & still no diagnosed.I love my cat & dog too.my dog has started having some renal problems special food now & now i'm giving him 200ml of saline subcue twice a week.SO the worries never ends & I wonder why i'm having high blood pressure that my doc can't get under control .now i'm on 2 bp meds. I love you my friend.God Bless,
Sharon

In a life where so many things do happen that shouldn't (like ALS) it is natural to fret.

I remember going for my 1st ultrasound and thinking "I do this to people all day everyday - why am I nervous?" Very hard to be on the patient side of things - your "rational" side just isn't as strong!

So glad it ended up being benign.

Caroline, I am relieved that all turned out well as I just read this thread. I am just back from my 2 week cruise and saw this thread. Now I have lots of catch up to do! Prayer going up for your sons surgery to go well when it comes around, or a complete miraculous healing without surgery would do mighty fine too!
