.......diagnosed by an orthopedic surgeon who suspected spinal stenosis and passed me on to the neuro"s.....it was he who coined the phrase shop windows desease......................imagine you have parked the car in the car park on the way to the bank which is still a bit of a walk...through the shopping centre..fellow shoppers wondering if your a drunk...the legs are now screaming in pain..you gotta stop.................right in the middle of the pavement or sidewalk....well don"t you feel a right lemon stood there with the throngs of happy shoppers taking evasive action............well next time turn to the nearest shop window and pretend to brows whist waiting for the old legs to regenerate,,,,,simple eh?........and a bet you all did the same....shop windows desease...a bugger....told a neuro i had swdesease..whats that he said.......told him but he was"nt impresed..he gave a snotty look with no further comment......so have you got shop windows desease......johnny

hey johnny,i get it:!:
i only get out once a week into town for an hour or so,that wipes me out.
on a couple of occasions i have had full blown spasms in both my thighs when trying to move my legs...................i had to just stand there like a dummy while trying not to cry out.
you never get used to the stares of people, even after 11yrs i dont feel comfortable walking in public.

take the stiffness and cross it with a waddling gait plus a defective left lower leg that swings and slaps and what you got:?:............................a spastic semi paraplegic duck.........thats me.

ps...dont you know by now that doctors dont have a sense of humour.

I was in UK may/june. It was hard to get anyone to smile! whats the problem over there ? Maybe its the weather, maybe its just cultural.

I did live in Cardiff for 3 years. Hubby worked at Heath hospital doing some Pharmacology, mainly with anti epileptic meds. I loved my time there. It was one of the best times in my life. The Welsh loved us as we were kiwis and liked the All Blacks.

Had my 4th child over there so tried out the NHS. I refused an amnio and boy did they give me a hard time, Grumpy bunch in those hospitals.

Hey and Caroline, back on cats. The house we rented in Cardiff came with 2 black and white cats, Stanley and Oliver. They were even on the itinerary with the rental agent, only when we left the house there were only 3/4 of a cat left!

Oliver disappeared after following me when I was walking the girls to school oneday, and Stanley got hit by a car and lost his back leg. Poor things.

alyoop....may and june, thats when us brits are at our happyest.....the welsh are a pretty happy bunch thats why i still live here besides the fact i have two grandkids who think the english like me are sh@@......especially when we beat em at rugby, which is a real mans game not like the armour plated stuff called american football.........your right about our hospitals..the act like there doing you a favour despite the fact we pay through the nose in taxes to pay for it..watch out obamas health service gonna costa plenty...socialism dont work.. just got in from the boozer so if am out of turn forgive me...........tonight i sleep well............loves johnnyhadonetomany

I do something simular at the mall...thank God they have benches down the center of it along the outside of the shops. When the spasticity starts to make my legs not even want to move in a foward direction...I sit at the nearest bench...no matter how many people are on it. Sometimes its like playing musical chairs and I gotta fight for a spot...but thats just once in a while. I don't think many docs have a sense of humor...or maybe they have heard so many people complaining about what ails them, they just are slow on the uptake when someone kids them.

Aly sorry to hear about your kitties. Tough life for an outdoor cat.

I disagree, Our Neuro consultant John Ealing has a great sense of humour and so too have the specialist nurses Rose and Sam, we go to Hope hospital in Manchester England and now feel very lucky compared to you all. They always have a smile for us no matter what and always make us feel individual and not just sheep in the pen waiting turn Thank God for MND team at Hope

sorry to hear about those poor cats alyoop,no offense but i would not ask you to house sit mine lol.
i still can not get over the lion man.

if you had to put up with our british weather you lot would be miserable.
if i had the money i have always said i would get out of here to a sunny climate.

as for the nhs...........it stinks.
it is not free,we pay for it but dont get the service.
i would gladly pay private insurance instead if it meant a better service.
mick n ang, there are some odd good doctors(i have met a few)but most dont have the time to care these days.
there too over worked, stressed and tied too much to paper work ,targets ect by the goverment.

Private insurance doesn't really get you better service. Instead it makes the insurance the customer to please, which is often not to your benefit. The only time I have truly been able to feel like the customer was when I was self-paying in cash.

in a perfect world there would be no insurance.

no insurance, just taxes........i"d love to pay U.S petrol prices....and taxes....but am not jealous..much....!..and i got away with my little crack at U.S football..but a was only joking........well, happy is the person who"s happy with what they got....whatever that maybe......sleep tight gang.....johnnyknacked....

toka....cash gives me great neuro service too!.......and a smile...........
